Kiwassa Camp was built in 1905 by a hotel owner who lived just outside the Adirondack Park. It was common for families in the late 19th and early 20th century to build these "camps" or private summer residences and spend the entire summer in the Adirondack Mountains to relax, breath the pristine forest scented air and escape the heat of the lower elevations. These camps were often elaborate dwellings that maintained a traditional rustic style of architecture.
The hotel owner kept the property until the 1930's when it was bought by a New Jersey judge and his family who also spent summers in the Adirondacks. They eventually sold the property to the present owners, Donald and Doris Richter in the early 1960's. Their daughter, Jane Sandberg, handles reservations for the family.
We hope you will enjoy the quiet rustic atmosphere of this century old property.
